Where to take the ferry from Capri to Positano

Ferries to Positano depart from Marina Grande, the main port of Capri, located on the island’s northern side. If you are staying in Capri town, you can easily reach the port on foot, by car and taxi or public transport.

Around the port you’ll find cafés, bars, restaurants and shops, as well as ticket offices, luggage storage, and boat tour operators.

How to get to the port of Capri

The port of Capri is connected to the rest of the island by funicular, bus and taxi (private cars are not allowed on the island for non-residents).

• From Capri town (La Piazzetta): the fastest option is the funicular, which reaches Marina Grande in about 4-5 min., with departures every 10-15 min. from 6:30 to 23:00. Alternatively, you can take the SIPPIC bus.
• From Anacapri: you can take the direct Anacapri - Marina Grande bus, or take the bus to Capri and then continue by funicular. The journey takes about 25 min., with departures every 30 min.
• From Marina Piccola or other areas: you can use the local bus services connecting Capri and Anacapri, with intermediate stops and, if necessary, a transfer in Capri or Anacapri.

The island's iconic open-top taxis serve all areas accessible by road. You can find them at the port, near La Piazzetta, in Anacapri and at Marina Piccola. They are more expensive than public transport, but are a convenient option, especially if you're travelling with lots of luggage.

Where does the ferry arrive in Positano?

Ferries from Sorrento dock at the main pier in Positano, located directly on Marina Grande beach, the town’s central seaside area. From here, you can get to the center of Positano in just a few minutes on foot.

Nearby the port, you’ll find cafés, restaurants and beach clubs with a view of Marina Grande, shops and boutiques, as well as boat tour operators and water taxis to explore more of the Amalfi Coast by sea. The pier is also a starting point for boat excursions to Capri, Amalfi, and nearby beaches.

Keep in mind that Positano is built vertically into the cliffs, so reaching hotels or viewpoints usually involves negotiating steep stairways and uphill paths.
